The Case by Leopold Borstinski | Blog Tour | #TheCase @borstinski @damppebbles #damppebblesblogtours

So, today is my stop on the blog tour organised by Damp Pebbles for the release of The Case by Leopold Borstinski.

This is a Noir Thriller, so let’s get started…

One Private Eye. One Case. One sackful of trouble.
When Jake agrees to take a package across America, he doesn’t know if he’ll live to tell the tale. If the CIA, the Feds and the British Secret Service don’t get him then the mob will. How’s a cowardly private dick going to survive in these bloody times?
For reasons Jake wishes he could figure out, the CIA, the FBI, the KKK, the British Secret Service and the mob want to get their hands on the leather briefcase and whatever secrets lurk inside. Can Jake find the bag and make it back to New York before he is killed or are the dark forces circling overhead too powerful for anyone to stop them?

The Case is a stand-alone pulp noir novel. A wry take on the jaw-dropping violent side of private investigator life by Leopold Borstinski, writer of the six-book Lagotti Family series. – Goodreads

Thank you to Emma from Damp Pebbles for inviting me on this blog tour.
The Case definitely gives me pulp fiction vibes, I’ve never read such a gritty noir book like this and it was definitely an experience.

We are taken on a journey through Jake’s career as a private investigator up until his last case. This is a mild crime thriller as it wasn’t focused as much on the actual case which I was expecting. We flip through his past jobs as a PI, there was a lot of description about his sexual conquests throughout the years, especially those involved in the cases he was working on.

It’s such a crazy journey seeing behind the scenes of an old school private investigator, how he’s constantly travelling to wherever his next case takes him, living out of different hotel rooms. The involvement of the KKK, CIA and FBI definitely added an extra layer.

The reason that I can’t give this book any higher than 3 and a half cups of coffee out of 5 is purely due to the structure of this book, we keep jumping back and forth between decades and cases. It was confusing to read, especially as I do the majority of my reading at night, however I would recommend it to those who enjoy gritty old school noir.
