I know this is a little later than others you may have read but I still wanted to share my favourite reads of the year with you all. In no particular order…

Psychopaths Anonymous by Will Carver

This is a book completely like no other. Maeve is an awful person but I absolutely loved her and this book made me laugh out loud in a very dark comedic way. I really loved the structure of the book it was so original but it’s definitely not going to be for everyone. It’s been almost a year since I read this book and I still think about it.
The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard

I will read everything that Catherine Ryan Howard publishes as each is so unique, I’m currently reading her newest book Run Time. In The Nothing Man we have the sole survivor of a serial killer writing a book about her experience in the hopes of catching him. I couldn’t put this book down, if you’re a fan of true crime then I definitely recommend this.
The Night Swim by Megan Goldin

I read this at the beginning of 2022 after seeing almost everyone read it in 2021. I listened to this on audio as this is a true crime podcast and I’m so glad that I did because I couldn’t get enough of it. I loved that we had two storylines which kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed The Night Swim and I’ll be reading more from the author.
Hydra (Six Stories #2) by Matt Wesolowski

I listened to pretty much this whole series last year on audio, I devoured it all. Scott King is a podcast host and each book has a new cold case to explore from six points of view. If you’re a fan of true crime podcasts then audio is definitely the way to go, I gave all the books in the series 5 stars.
Timber (Hades #4) by Tate James

I can always rely on Tate James to help me out of a reading slump, her books involve addictive plot lines with a hell of a lot of spice. I’m really sad that this is the last in the Hades series but what a finale it was!
The Clinic by Sally-Anne Martyn

I read this book for a blog tour in November and I’m so glad that I read this because it exceeded all my expectations, I absolutely loved it. The author created an uncomfortable atmosphere at the Beautiful You clinic run by Dr Cavendish. This is a seriously impressive debut and if you want to read my full thoughts you can head to my review here.
The App by Stuart James

This book gave me a serious case of the heebie jeebies. I’m obsessed with the dark side of technology and this certainly didn’t disappoint. The app made me question my own morals, what would I do to save my little boy? Would I kill a stranger? This is the first book I’ve picked up by Stuart James, but it won’t be the last. You can read my full review here.
The Goddess of Nothing At All (Unwritten Runes #1) by Cat Rector

I read The Goddess of Nothing At All for the Book Blogger Novel of the Year Award and I was really impressed. Don’t get me wrong this was a mammoth of a book and incredibly intense but I’m so glad that I was able to read it. We follow Sigyn, Loki and Thor along with many others. I’ve never read a Norse mythology book so I had no idea what I had got myself into but the writing was beautiful and I was fully invested in Sigyn’s life. I’m so excited to see where the author takes the series in the next book.
Bloodlaced (Youkai Bloodlines #1) by Courtney Maguire

I also read this book for the BBNYA and this was my favourite. It was beautifully written, heartbreaking and perfectly paced. This is the reason that I love taking part each year because I find books that I would otherwise be unaware of and two of them have made it to my best books of the year.
The Prisoner by B.A. Paris

The Prisoner was such an addictive listen, I didn’t know where the author was going to take the book and there was the perfect balance of pacing and tension. Imagine being more scared of being returned to your husband than the person holding you prisoner. I listened to this in two sittings, I just couldn’t get enough.

What were your favourite reads of 2022?
See you in the next one…
