I’ve been doing the Mid-Year Freak Out Tag since 2019, however I was a little undecided about whether or not to take part this year as I’ve only read 25 books and I’ve not been blogging as much so it has been a little harder to answer all of the questions.
I love reading everyone else’s answers to these tags and looking back at what I’ve read over the years so I couldn’t miss out.

Best Book(s) You’ve Read So Far In 2022

The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard
Wow. This is the second book I’ve read from the author and I wish I would have done a full dedicated review for this book as soon as I’d finished because I absolutely loved it. The sole survivor of a serial killer has written a book to try and catch the man who killed her family almost twenty years ago. This is a book within a book and I just couldn’t stop reading, if you’re a fan of true crime then I definitely recommend this.
Psychopaths Anonymous by Will Carver
This is a book like no other, I don’t even know how to review it. Maeve is an awful person but I absolutely loved her and this book made me laugh out loud in a very dark comedic way. I also loved the structure of this book, it’s definitely not going to be for everyone.
Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2022

Changeling (Six Stories #3) by Matt Wesolowski
I’ve loved all of this series but the ending of this book made my jaw drop for a very long time, I just couldn’t believe the direction in which the author took the book. I devoured this whole series in 6 months but I think that this was definitely the stand out book for me.
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak
I’ve been seeing this book doing the rounds and it has definitely piqued my interests especially the inclusion of hand drawn pictures and what secrets they hold. I have an eARC of this and I just need to read it.
Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half Of The Year

Genesis (Robert Hunter #12) by Chris Carter
I only found out this morning that there is finally another book in the Robert Hunter series which is one of my favourites. I’m so excited for it now and you know that as soon as I can get my hands on a copy I will be reading it.
Biggest Disappointment

True Crime Story by Joseph Knox
So this book isn’t the worst thing that I’ve read this year but I was so excited and I think that it just fell flat. I had to really push myself to keep reading, the only positive was the structure .
Biggest Surprise

From the Deep by Kateri Stanley
I’m so glad that I gave this book a go for the blog tour, I had no idea what to expect and it really surprised me. You can see my full stop on the tour here.
Favourite New Author

Matt Wesolowski
All of these books have been incredible on audio, I don’t want to go into each book individually as I went into these books blind and I believe that definitely increased my experience. If you are unfamiliar with the premise of this series our main character Scott King is a podcast host who each book chooses a new cold case to tell from six points of view. If you are a fan of true crime podcasts then I would definitely recommend listening to these books on audio.
Book That Made You Cry

Book That Made You Happy

The Worrier’s Guide to Life by Gemma Correll
This was a very impromptu read, I saw it on Scribd and I felt like this book called to me, I could definitely win the world champion over-thinker. There wasn’t much of a story going on here but I loved the comics and the drawings made me smile and laugh a little.
Favourite Book To Film Adaptation

The Last Wish (The Witcher #0.5) by Andrzej Sapkowski
Sword of Destiny (The Witcher #0.7) by Andrzej Sapkowski
These are the only books that I’ve read that have been adapted for the screen. I started binging them at the begining of the year and made it over halfway through the first novel Blood of Elves but I think I burnt myself out. Maybe I’ll finish it before the year ends.
Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year

This Might Hurt by Stephanie Wrobel
I’ve only bought a handful of books so far this year and normally they’re second hand so I think the one that I would say is the most beautiful would have to be my hardback copy of This Might Hurt.
What Book(s) Do You Need To Read/Finish By The End Of The Year

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
The Mirror Man (Joona Linna #8) by Lars Kepler
This Might Hurt by Stephanie Wrobel
I could do a whole post on books that I need to read by the end of the year so I’ve decided to pick the three books that I’ve started and I’m desperate to finish. Starting books and not finishing them is a terrible habit that I’ve started this year and I want to try and end the year with as many books finished as possible.

Have you done this tag yet?
See you in the next one…

Loved your answers! I think we had the same reaction at the end of Changeling – my jaw was on the floor.
