Monthly Wrap Up

-| Wrapping Up… July 2020 |-

How is July over already? I hope you’ve all had a great month, I managed to read 6 books with one getting 5 stars.
Let’s get stuck in…

Serial Cortex by Chris Yee
I listened to this book on Scribd as it had a really interesting premise, using technology to enter the mind of a serial killer.
I did have quite high expectations and really wanted to love this yet there were holes in the detective work making it seem that the special unit isn’t competent enough to be solving crimes. I also felt that the author could have done a lot more with this premise, it fell a little flat for me.
I will be reading book two, however I will be lowering my expectations.

The Summoned Ones: Book 1 Flight to Bericea by Darryl A. Woods

I honestly didn’t know what to expect from this book, what I found was an incredibly detailed world with an interesting band of characters. The characters were really well developed and each had their own distinct personality.
For me the pace of this book was just a little slower than I prefer, I also found that the summoned ones did seem to master their abilities almost instantly which took me out of the story a little.

The Bone Jar (Detective Lew Kirby, #1) by S.W. Kane

I love finding out the history of abandoned buildings, especially creepy ones such as asylums so I knew that this book would be right up my alley. The author created such a creepy and almost claustrophobic atmosphere with the thick snow in London which added to the suspense of the book.
The tension and the twists in The Bone Jar made it difficult to put down, it’s a great start to the series and I will definitely be picking up the sequel.

The Gilded Cage (Fayes hämnd #1) by Camilla Läckberg
I’ve been wanting to read Camilla Lackberg for the longest time, I’ve had The Ice Princess which is the first book in her other series on my bookcase for so long. I didn’t even read the synopsis for this book I just saw it on Scribd and decided to give it a shot.
I went into this with no expectations and ended up really loving it, I hope more people read this!

Lost (Dr Bloom, #2) by Leona Deakin
I couldn’t wait to get started on this book after enjoying Gone so much last year, I didn’t even read the synopsis I just knew that I wanted to read it and I jumped in blind. I don’t like to reveal too much about thrillers as I want you to be able experience everything yourself.
The plot itself was complex and addictive, Deakin has a way of pulling you in and not letting go until the very last page. This series excites me and I’m ready for book number 3!

The Handmaid’s Tale: The Graphic Novel by Renée Nault & Margaret Atwood
I read this in one sitting, I loved The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood, add that to the beautiful art by Renée Nault and you have a 5 star book.

What was your favourite read this month?
See you in the next one…
