So, today is my stop on the tour for Duplicity by K. J. McGillick, this book really surprised me!
So let’s jump straight in…

Two sides of the same coin. Completely alike. Completely different.
What started out as a normal art restoration project for Melinda Martin soon took on a life of its own. Could this unusual painting actually be a Botticelli masterpiece thought to have perished as part of Savonarola’s Bonfire of the Vanities? Had Melinda’s friend, Lana, a well-known art picker inadvertently acquired stolen art; art that might have ties to the occult and worth millions? Did a bad business decision endanger everyone who touched this potential treasure?
When the painting disappears and both women are found dead, the police think it’s an open and shut case. The husband – it’s always the husband. He had means, motive, and opportunity, and acted strangely cold after the fact.
Is it a case of mistaken identity? Does a secret relationship put Mr. Martin in the crosshairs of an assassin sent to retrieve the painting? Or is he really a sociopath forger with mysterious ties to the Vatican? – Goodreads

As I said above, this book really surprised me!
So, it turns out that this is #5 in the Lies and Misdirection series, I didn’t realise this until I was nearly half way through. Even though this is number 5, I don’t feel like it ruined my experience at all.

This case gave me serious Dan Brown vibes! I was transported to Italy on the hunt for a stolen artwork with links to the Vatican, I loved it so much!
We follow with the narratives from both of our main characters bringing us along on each of their quests. What made this book even more addictive was the slither of short chapters from our murderer.
The only thing that let this book down for me was our main character Mary, I found her infuriatingly stubborn also I found her dialogue to be repetitive.

As you probably know, it’s hard to go into detail with crime\thriller books as they are best enjoyed when not much is known beforehand. The ending was so interesting and different to many others that I’ve read, I wish I could go into more detail but I know it will be so much better for you if you go in blind.
I definitely want to read the first four in this series now.

I’m giving Duality 4 cups of coffee out of 5!
