So, today is my stop on the blog tour for Manipulated Lives by H. A. Leuschel.

Let’s jump right in…

Five compelling true-to-life stories each highlighting a narcissist’s manipulative mind games
Narcissists are everywhere.
They can be witty, charming and highly charismatic.
Anyone can be their target.
At first their devious, calculating mind games can be hard to spot because they are masters of disguise, but then they revert to their true self of being controlling and angry in private. Their main aim: to dominate and use others to satisfy their needs, with a complete lack of compassion and empathy for their victim.
All stories highlight to what extent narcissistic abuse can distort lives and threaten our self-worth yet ultimately, also send a positive message that once the narcissist is unmasked, the victims can at last break free. – Goodreads –

This is a difficult book to review as it is a collection of five short true-to-life stories of those who find themselves in situations where they are manipulated from those they love. Out of the five there was one that really caught me off guard and actually made me cry! Yes, me who is usually dead inside and doesn’t cry easily did just that.

It was the first story, Tess and Tattoos, it broke my heart. We often forget that the older generation become so lonely and isolated, yes they may be in retirement homes or shared accommodation but they need company and human interaction that’s more than just being helped out of bed and being given their medication. This story broke my heart so much that I just had to put the kindle down and take some time out.

We are like candle flames, so fragile, so easily blown out by a gust of wind. Yet here I am, even if only by a small glimmer.

– Tess and Tattoos

These are hard hitting topics that are covered in the collection but they are also extremely important. Anyone can become manipulated by those who they would least expect it. I’ve never read anything like this before, I said earlier that this is a difficult book to review and that is because I had different feelings for each. However, there was only the one which pulled at my heart strings so Manipulated Lives is getting 3 and a half cups of coffee out of 5.
