Reviewing… The Betrayal of KA by Shea R. Oliver

So, today I will be reviewing The Betrayal of KA by Shea R. Oliver, I was contacted by the author to be given the opportunity to review this book. This is the first book in The Transprophetics series.

Let’s get started…

As the spaceship secretly lands on Earth, Ka’s mission is clear: find and kill Transprophetics. His shipmates think of him as a killer. On his home planet of Koranth, he is considered a murderer. Haunted in his dreams by the boy whose life he stole, Ka struggles to define who he really is.
A girl in a temple in Thailand. A boy kidnapped in Mexico. Both can do the impossible. Both can move objects with their minds. These two Transprophetics pose grave risks to the Donovackia Corporation as it plans its invasion of Earth.
With a blade in his hand, Ka’s decision to kill, or not, will reverberate across the galaxy.

While reading the first third of this book I didn’t know if I would enjoy it due to it being completely out of my comfort zone. However, if you have been following this blog for a while, you may have noticed that I’ve been exploring other genres. It was refreshing to dive into something new and exciting. Travelling between planets through portals is not something i’m used to reading, so once I was becoming familiar with the world and the characters I was unable to put this down.

Shea Oliver writes so well that I could easily visualise this world while reading, I especially loved the description of the prison and the procedures that Ka went through during the initial process and time there (I feel like I should mention that there is a very dark and gritty issue during his time in the prison which some people may find difficult to read about).
I became attached to a handful of our characters that we are following who are unaware that they are involved in a mission from another planet.

I loved the little reveal near the end, it made me feel more towards that character and I became even more invested in their adventure. The underlying political issues were really intriguing aswell, I’m hoping to find more about the repercussions of those decisions being made in the second book.

The second instalment of this book is due out in September I believe and straight away I reserved the pre-release copy of this. I would definitely recommend this to those who enjoy gritty Sci-Fi. I’m giving The Betrayal of Ka 4 cups of coffee out of 5! I’m so looking forward to getting back into this world.

Who is Shea R. Oliver?

Shea Oliver lives in Niwot, Colorado, near the base of the Rocky Mountains. He can often be found wandering through mountain forests and alpine tundra. An avid hiker and photographer, he often uses his time in the mountains to work through various characters and plots. When he is not enjoying nature, Shea is a devoted father of two teenage sons and a serial entrepreneur.
