So, today is my stop on the blog tour for Come Back For Me by Heidi Perks. I really enjoyed this so let’s just get started…
A shocking discovery. An island wrapped in secrets.
A tiny island community is stunned by the discovery of a long-buried body.
For Stella Harvey the news is doubly shocking. The body has been found in the garden of her childhood home – the home her family fled without explanation twenty-five years ago. Now, questioning her past and desperate to unearth the truth, Stella returns to the isolated island. But she quickly finds that the community she left isn’t as welcoming as she remembers – and that people in it will go to any length to protect their secrets. One thing rings true…You can’t bury the truth forever.

This is such a hard review to write as I can’t go into too much detail as I don’t want to spoil the reveal. I loved that this book was told for the majority from Stella’s point of view, however, what really made this interesting were the snippets from the other characters. The characters and their relationships were just so complex that you didn’t know who you could trust. Everyone seemed to have a motive to have committed the murder.
Stella takes us along for her journey to discover the truth which was so captivating.
Honestly the topic towards the end of this book is something I don’t think that I’ve come across before. It’s so original and thought provoking. Without spoiling anything it really made me question my ethics, do I agree with what was happening? Is it for the greater good? Could I live with that lie? This honestly kept me hooked, I took it everywhere with me!
I can’t remember the last time a book made me question what I would do in that situation, it made me take a real hard look at myself, which is pretty rare for a book to do. Being honest I still don’t have an answer to these questions! This is the first Heidi Perks book I’ve read and honestly this was so addictive I put the book down and thought to myself what am I supposed to do now?
I just wish that this wasn’t a slow burn as I found myself becoming a little impatient wanting to find out the secrets which made them leave the island in such a hurry. (This isn’t the books fault as I’m a pretty impatient person anyway especially when a book has me so consumed as this did!
The ending really shocked me! I usually find myself predicting the plot twists in psychological thrillers but I was completely wrong in this case!
Come Back For Me is being given 4 cups of coffee out of 5!
