Mid Year Freak Out | Book Tag

So, I saw this tag on Kristin’s blog over at Kristin Kraves Books it seemed like a fun way to look back over the year so far.

Let’s begin…

Best book you’ve read so far in 2019

Two fairly recent reads and not what I thought. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff and The Kingdom by Jess

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019

Let’s be honest Lars Kepler is always going to feature in my book lists. I just love this series so much. Stalker is #5 in this series, I have read The Rabbit Hunter since, which is #6 but so far Stalker is definitely my favourite.

New release you haven’t read yet but want to

The Stranger Diaries, I have this on my NetGalley shelf, what’s putting me off reading this is the ‘chilling gothic’ vibe. I’ve never read anything like this so not sure if I will enjoy it.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

I can’t pick just one! I’ve been wanting more from The Handmaids Tale for years and now The Testaments is finally being released in September. Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff is a relatively new anticipated release as I fell in love with Nevernight and I’ve just started Godsgrave, so I’m very excited about this.

Biggest disappointment

Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes, I really enjoyed the creepiness of ‘You’ so I was really excited to dive into this.
Oh man, I wish I’d DNF’d this book, it just fell flat, I didn’t like ant of the characters and it was just really boring. Not a fan.

Biggest surprise

Graphic Novels! Who knew that I would love them?!
This is all thanks to the book community both on blogs and booktube. I have read both of these volumes this month and I really enjoyed them, they are completely out of my comfort zone but I will definitely be carrying on with this series. I’ve also downloaded loads of graphic novels from kindle unlimited so keep your eyes peeled for my thoughts on them.

Favourite new author

It has to be Lorraine Mace, if you have been following my blog the last couple of months you will have seen that I’ve been involved with the blog tours for her first 3 book in the D.I. Sterling Series and I’m so in love with them! Her writing just keeps me hanging on and I love her character development as you will see below.

Newest fictional crush

Let’s be honest, I’m not one to have a ‘fictional crush’ however, I can appreciate those who do especially since dipping my toes into the fantasy and YA world. I think the closest I can get to a fictional crush is Tric from Nevernight.

Newest favourite character

D.I. Paolo Sterling , I just love him and finding out more about his personality. I really need the 4th instalment!

Book that made you cry

Oh man, I’ve said this a few times but I’m pretty heartless when it comes to reading I just don’t cry.

Book that made you happy

Same as above, books in general make me happy and I’m never without a book by my side, but in terms of a single book actually happy I don’t think there has been one.

Favourite book to film adaptation

I rarely watch film and TV adaptations of the ones I’ve read. The last one was Inferno by Dan Brown.

Favourite post you have done this year

It definitely has to be the Disney Origins series that I’ve started, I love researching the original stories for these and I have another one in the works. If you have missed the first two, you can find them here:
Pinnochio
The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year

Three Dark Crowns, bought this second hand of Amazon so the cover was a surprise. Stunning green gradient spine and snake over the crown. I’ve not read this yet so I don’t actually know whose version this is!

What book do you need to read by the end of the year

I really want to start The Mortal Instruments series and recently bought the City of Bones. I also really want to read Game of Thrones, I may be one of the only people who hasn’t watched a single episode of it, would love to try the books though.

I enjoyed this more than I expected, the months are flying by so fast that it’s nice to just hit pause and look back at the books I’ve read so far.
Have you done this tag? If so then leave your link below.

See you in the next one…

  1. Ooh I’ve really been looking forward to The Kingdom! It sounds really interesting and I just love that cover.

Yay, I’m so glad you’ve gotten into graphic novels! I understand that they’re not for everyone but they’re seriously so much fun.

I haven’t seen that cover of Three Dark Crowns before 😱 but you got it just in time. Now you can binge the whole series before the last book comes out in a couple of months lol. I hope you enjoy it and City of Bones!

      1. The last couple of days I’ve been bingeing the I Hate Fairyland graphics. They’re hilarious if you don’t mind gory stuff. But if you’re into Marvel I’d also recommend All-New Wolverine and the Captain Marvel run by Kelly Sue DeConnick (the first volume is Higher, Further, Faster)!
