I’m so excited to share the third instalment of this series with you! I’m not gonna play hard to get, you all know that I’m a massive fan of the D.I Sterling series and I just honestly can’t get enough.
Stop, I’m getting ahead of myself, let me tell you what it’s about.
Ready? Let’s go…
Detective Inspector Paolo Sterling has just six weeks to solve a series of murders by insulin injection, with nothing to connect the victims except the manner of death and a note left at each crime scene.
The murderer, determined to avenge a wrong from many years earlier, gets close to his prey by assuming various identities.
Can Paolo win in his race against the pretender?
– Goodreads –
Have you ever started a new series and straight away just connected with the characters? This is how I feel about Paolo, his daughter and the team, they have a place in my heart (which nearly broke with the last page in this book, thanks for that Lorraine!)
There’s just something about the way in which these books are written, they draw you in and you become fully invested in the case and the events surrounding it. Due to the dark nature of the books I usually read it’s very rare that a book makes me smile. However, we were given more insights of Paolo’s personality and it was this that made me smile quite a few times (enough to actually highlight those lines). The character development is definitely one of the strongest points in these books.
Another strength is the originality of the murder cases, when reading so many crime novels I can get a little bored of the repetition between books, yet this is not the case here. We’ve had a religious man ‘cleansing’ the streets, young children being trafficked and abused from Albania and now a particular group of victims being killed off with a lethal dose of insulin. Side note: these books are not for the faint hearted.
The last thing that I wanted to mention was that I have not correctly predicted the ending of one of these books! Trust me I have tried to play the detective! I have my list of suspects and my killer changed with every other chapter. I have been surprised with each reveal and I think that it’s actually quite rare not to be predictable these days.
If you are unaware of the first two books in this series then I will leave my reviews here for you:
Retriever of Souls
Children in Chains
It’s completely obvious that I’m in love with these books and I’m so grateful to have been invited to the 4th instalment Rage and Retribution which I’m eagerly waiting to start!
Injections of Insanity is getting a massive 5 cups of coffee out of 5!
(Please Lorraine never stop writing these books!!!)
