Blog Tour, Book Review, New Releases

I Want You Gone by Miranda Rijks #IWantYouGone @damppebbles #damppebblesblogtours

So today is my first blog tour!
Thank you to Emma over at damppebbles.com for inviting me to take part and providing me with this fab read.

Let’s get started!

The only obituary you never want to read – is your own.
Laura Swallow is dead.
A life cut tragically short, says the newspaper obituary.
But that’s a lie.
Estate agent Laura did not die in a car accident. She is alive and well.
At first, Laura thinks it’s a sick joke.
But multiple announcements of her death are followed by increasingly sinister real-life events. Already fragile, struggling to recover from a recent divorce, Laura is plunged into a living nightmare.
Who can she trust? Her new lover? Her clients and work colleagues? What about her ex-husband and his smug fiancée?
Can Laura even rely on her best friends? And why is it that Laura’s present troubles are so tied up with her sister’s sudden death all those years ago?
But one thing Laura is sure of – someone out there wants her to suffer. Wants her gone. Forever.

My review:

Wow, what a read!

I really enjoyed the plot and pacing of I Want You Gone, this is definitely up my alley in terms of my preferred genre.
First of all, the thought of reading my own obituary gave me chills! Imagine knowing that someone has so much hatred for you that they would actually try to make people, including your teenage daughter believe that you are dead!

One of the main things I loved about this book is that there are biscuit crumbs scattered throughout the book rather than just being thrown together at the end. This makes you want to play detective, trying to ‘solve the case’ before the culprit is revealed to us.

Laura is so relatable that it feels like you are trying to support your friend through this nightmare. I think that is what makes this book so addictive and twisted. You feel sorry for her and in some situations I just wanted to shake her and tell her to open her eyes and see what is going on around her! I was quite frustrated in some parts of the book haha!
It is so hard to write about my feelings for the other characters without spoiling it for you, so once you have read this please leave me a comment because I feel the need to discuss this!

Now this may just be me! But I did figure things out less than half way through the book, however as I mentioned before I usually try to be a detective so I may have been over-analysing everything. On the other hand this book isn’t supposed to be a ‘whodunit’ so it didn’t spoil my reading experience.

I Want You gone is a definite 4 cups of coffee out of 5!

  1. Nice review Blair, you are pretty good writer yourself! Your thoughts definitely make me want to read the book. Love mysteries and trying to solve the case before the answer is revealed. I will re-blog it forward. Thanks again.
