My Best Reads of 2018 – Part Two

Hey

So, this is the second part of my best reads of 2018 as promised. There are many books which haven’t been included in this and that is because they are trilogies or part of a series on which I will be doing separate posts for. I read 80 books last year so it was different making a short list. However I hope you like this post and please leave a comment if you have read any of these or with your best reads, I would love to hear from you.

The serial killer isn’t on trial, he’s in the jury. Hollywood’s hottest power couple had the world at their feet. Yet now one of them is dead and star Robert Solomon is charged with the brutal murder of his beautiful wife. As the trial begins a series of sinister incidents in the courtroom start to raise doubts in con artist turned lawyer Eddie Flynn’s mind. What if there is more than one actor int the courtroom? What if the killer isn’t on trial? What if the killer is on the jury?

First of all, when I started reading this book I was not aware that it was part of a series, this is number four. I always feel to be at a slight disadvantage when I read a book which is in the middle of a series that i’m not familiar with. I will admit that at first this for me was a slow burner, I haven’t read a legal thriller in a while so i’m used to a little more action from the beginning. However, I am so glad that I pushed forward as the second half of this book was intense! The twists just kept coming and as soon as you thought you had it all figured out, BAM! you’re smacked in the face with a new twist.

I have taken a cup of coffee off this rating purely because of the first half of the book,
so my rating for Thirteen 4 coffee cups out of 5.

I’m in your house
I’m in your head
And now I know your secret.

Nothing has felt right since Elle rented out her house, there seems to be a shift in the atmosphere. She has a prickling feeling that someone is watching her every move from the shadows. As fear and paranoia close in, Elle’s own home becomes a prison. Someone is unlocking her past and she’s given them the key.

This was addictive and all-consuming. I became addicted to the breadcrumbs left perfectly placed within this book. I even sometimes had the chills as I was fully submerged and attached to finding out who was tormenting Elle in the one place she should feel safe. This was hands down the best psychological thriller I read in 2018 and definitely deserves 5 cups of coffee out of 5.

Jessica Farris signs up for a psychological study thinking she will just answer a few questions, collect her money and then leave. The questions become more intense and invasive and the sessions become field trips where she is told what to wear and how to act. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.

I was so excited to read this as I loved The Wife Between Us. This book exceeded my expectations and had me questioning the authenticity of each character. Sometimes in books like this I can guess what ‘twists’ there will be as some are very predictable. However, this was not one of them, many times my mind was blown and I was hit with something that I completely wasn’t expecting. Once again I stayed awake all night to finish this as I was completely hooked.
This is an easy 5 out of 5 cups of coffee.

That’s the end of this post guys, from now on I will be posting more frequently, please comment below if you have any ideas on what you would like me to read, review or post.
