So I am currently 60 pages in and I’m already hooked, so much so that I’m not sure why I’m writing this post instead of carrying on reading!
This book is written in short chapters from each characters perspective both past and present, I love this structure as it always gives you an extra little nugget of information then straight away you are on to a different chapter, you are constantly left wanting to keep on reading to find out more.
So what is it about? There are three main characters:
Louise’s husband had a short lived affair and walked out, making her six year old son the centre of her world. She works as a part time receptionist, supporting them both. Then she meets David. David is successful and charming psychiatrist, Louise can’t believe that a man like David would be attracted to her. However then Louise meets Adele… Adele is David’s beautiful and elegant wife. Louise and Adele becomes friends and she becomes obsessed by the perfect couple. Yet when she gets to know them both she starts to see the cracks…
I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this book as it has been on my to read list for a while now. I do have one concern however and that is that it has been built up as the book with the most shocking ending that we will read all year, I feel as though this has given me high expectations that it may not live up to.
Keep your eyes peeled to see if the ending lives up to my expectation…
So I have now finished this book (staying up all night thanks to Noah being poorly) and in all honesty I don’t know how to feel. The book is one crazy rollercoaster, I loved how intense and addictive it was. However – and this is a big however – the big WTF ending to be honest ruined this book for me . If I had of known the genre of the twist for the ending then it would be highly unlikely that I would of picked this book up to read.
I was hooked from the first page, but left dissatisfied.
